CAPTURE tricksOK, enough ranting.... I've converted my Solaris ppp connect scripts slightly to help assist with capture registration. (They should work under Linux, but you may need to adjust them slightly.... let me know if you do and I'll fix 'em) If you already have your Unix box setup to connect just download these two files and have at it. If not, check out the USSN help pages for Linux or Solaris. The register script will loop forever and will never "connect" since there isn't a modem on the other end. I've set the timeout in the chat script to be 15 seconds, which I've found is just about perfect for picking out the "do-da-dit..." message without waiting too long. Instructions: (You really need a speaker phone to do it right) Fire up the register script, and put your finger on the speaker phone button. (It helps if you have the speaker phone hooked into the output of the modem, so that it will be dead until the modem hangs up) The second you hear ringing instead of a busy, push it and wait. If you hear the "crackle" of the beginnings of the "do-da-dit" just hang up the speaker phone. In 9 our of 10 tries I've found that you "just" hear the "do-da-dit" over the modems speaker before the 15 seconds times out. The nice thing is it automatically dials, and as long as it gets a busy signal of some sort, it's very quick at hanging up and redialing. If you actually get connected, you've already got the speaker phone off the hook so just CTRL-C the register script and your set. The scripts: register and register_chat_script. You'll need to adjust some variables in the register script. If you have any problems with this, let me know.
