My personal computers...

Hardware:

I have absolutly positivly NO "Wintel" machines! I try to stick the the more obscure batch of hardware. One machine that I'd like to add to my collection would be a Ultra Sparc ATX motherboard based home-built Linux box.
    • DEC Alpha PC164LX (motherboard)
    • 21164 533mhz CPU (Check out that heat-sink!)
    • Alpha Linux
    • Generic ATX PC style mid-tower case
    • 256 megs of RAM
    • 21 gigs disk space (12 gigs allocated to my personal (LEGAL!) MP3 collection. It functions as my infinite "CD changer")
    • Matrox Millenium G200 8meg PCI frame buffer.
    • Hauppauge NTSC-TV capture card (great for watching movies)
    • 20" Sony monitor
    • Generic ISA sound card
    • 3COM 3c905 10/100 NIC
    • (2) Sun IPCs
    • 16 megs each
    • Mono frame buffers
    • 424 megs of disk each
    • Solaris 2.6 or Linux... whatever my mood happens to be
  • All of the above stuff is networked together with my 16 port 10BaseT ethernet hub

I used to run the following and will probably get another one some day when I have some more spare money: (Actually, when I get around to purchasing a laptop, I'll probably get a powerbook)
  • Apple PowerMac 8500
  • 96 megs
  • 4 gigs
  • Audio/Video capture and playback.
  • LinuxPPC
  • On board 10BaseT
If you're having trouble with Linux, FreeBSD, or just Unix in general (please no pine questions) you might want to check out the USSN help page. The USSN (Underground Student Support Network) is a project that a few of my friends and I have put together. You'll find lots of information there that should hopefully help you with your problem.
